The Supermarket
2 Mr Green is the…

Mr Green is the manager of the 360 supermarket it’s only a small supermarket so he knows most of his customers very well.

The supermarket means we can go to one place and buy all our food in one shop.

The big supermarkets sell clothes, electrical equipment, phones, CDs, DVDs and just about everything you can think of.

4 Before the big..

Before the big supermarkets we used to have to go to a different shop for each thing, this was called the high street.

We had butchers, bakers, music shops and electrical shops to name just a few and you couldn’t buy things online.

5 Because the trans

Because the transport wasn’t as good before the supermarkets, produce was bought locally, so fruit and vegetables and meat, cheese and milk all came from nearby farms.

6 Our food now…

Our food now comes from all over the world especially the fruit and vegetables.

Some of the exotic ones we cannot grow because we don’t have the right climate but others we can grow in Great Britain even in our gardens.

8 If you don’t

If you don’t have a garden or its not big enough a lot of areas will rent you an allotment but if you just want to start small a big pot or window box will be enough.

9 Growing your own

Growing your own food is amazing and so easy, just start small with some lettuce, radishes and spring onions, sow the seeds in pots, water them and watch them grow. There’s lots of books to show you how in the library.

11 Maybe your school..

Maybe your school has a garden and you can join a gardening club to learn

Different fruit and vegetables grow at different times of the year so its best to eat what’s growing in that season and then you can buy locally from shops and farms near where you live.

12 Some people can’t

Some people can’t get out to the shops easily so Mr Green and his team deliver shopping to people who are older or not feeling well.

13 Mr G’s supermarket stalls

Mr Green’s supermarket sells fresh fruit and vegetables and milk and cheese.
He gets deliveries every day so everything is fresh for the customers.

14 The supermarket also sells

The supermarket also sells meat and fish and freshly baked bread and pastries from the bakery.

The team are kept very busy stocking the shelves with produce and packing customers bags at the till.

15 Mr G’s customers

Mr Green’s customers bring their own shopping bags so they don’t have to use plastic ones. If you go to the farmers market you should also take your own bag. It’s always good to reuse things as it saves the energy of making new things.
