Welcome to
Vet ‘n’ Pet
2

Morag is the 360 Street vet, she was born in Scotland and trained hard to become a vet.
When she qualified she moved to England to run Vet ’n’ Pet, it was a long way to move.

Morag had to train for 5 long years at university in Edinburgh, after she left school, to learn to be a vet.

Morag learnt how to look after animals, how to take care of them and how to make them better when they are sick.

5

When Morag was training she learnt about many types of animals.

Her favourites were all the children’s pets she got to see. She met Nero the German Shepherd puppy who had a poorly leg, Marmalade the ginger cat whose nails needed to be cut as she was very scratchy, and Buddy the crazy cocker spaniel.

6

There was even a very large snake belonging to a very small girl named Slytherin (the snake not the little girl).

7

Morag also learnt about animals that live on a farm.
Good farmers care about their animals and look after them well.

Morag learnt about what they eat, where they live, how to milk the cows, how to trim toe nails and hooves and how to shear sheep. She even went to Wales to learn about the sheep that live in the Welsh hills.

But Morag’s favourite thing was watching the babies being born.

Watching the piglets taking their first breaths and the lambs tottering their first steps always amazed her and still does.

10

The cows in Scotland where Morag comes from are very different to English cows. They are called highland cows and are very hairy and very tough as it can get extremely cold in the highlands.

11

Morag has an assistant, a veterinary nurse call Joe.

Joe loves animals so much that before he worked for Morag he went to Africa for a year to work with the wild animals that live there.

Joe’s dad comes from Tanzania so while he was there he visited his family and met lots of new relatives.

Joe worked in The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and learnt about the many different African animals.

He also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro the highest mountain in Africa.

Joe met and worked with many different animals but he loves being home looking after everyones pets.

15

Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano in Tanzania in Africa.

A lot of animals in the world are endangered, which means there’s not many of them left.

They may have been killed by poachers for their tusks or horns, or where they live has been destroyed by people building on their habitat or cutting all the rainforest trees down.

18

African elephants have larger ears than Indian elephants, but they are both still hunted for their ivory tusks.

19

A Rhinoceros has horns which are made out of the same material as our hair and nails. In wildlife sanctuaries they cut down the rhino’s horns so that poachers can’t get them.
