The Boutique
When Twirl’s not working at 360, greeting all the children and joining in their birthday parties, she’s running her Boutique in 360 Street.
Out of her 360 uniform, Twirl loves to dress in bright colours and floaty dresses and tops. This style is called Bohemian and that’s the sort of clothes her shop sells.
Twirl’s passion is second hand and vintage (old) clothes and she loves to make new things out of old ones by cutting them up, mixing them together and sewing them back up. She visits charity shops and boot sales to pick up bargains to get material to work with.
Fashion designers draw out their designs first so they can see what they will look like and change
things until they are happy and then they make a pattern and choose the material that they will use.
Twirl’s other favourite thing is costume jewellery and the bigger the better.
Costume jewellery is just inexpensive things to wear such as necklaces, rings, ear rings and bracelets. They can be very big and colourful. Twirl also likes to make her own it’s very easy.
The Boutique is mainly for women but Twirl is trying to expand and get more unusual men’s clothes in as well.
Twirl’s assistant Jakob is helping her with this whist he’s at college studying.
Jakob loves bright colours and patterns but he likes the more tailored look of shirts and trousers so they make a good match.
Twirl studied fashion at college where she learnt about the famous fashion designers and their different styles, she even got to spend a year in Paris at one of the big fashion designers learning how they start with an idea, then do a drawing, choose materials and make a sample before the item gets to the shops.
She also learnt about fashion shoots and the fashion shows where models walk up and down a runway stage showing off all the clothes to buyers of all the big shops.
One of Twirl’s favourite designers was Zandra Rhodes who designed and wore big, bright, floaty clothes with big, bold jewellery; Zandra once did a big runway show in Delhi in India based on their woman’s traditional clothing the sari.
Twirl and Jakob also like following the music stars to see what they’re wearing in their videos and on stage, they love Lady GaGa and all her way-out costumes, and Kanye West the rapper who has his own fashion line of streetwear and sneakers.
Billie Eilish is another of their favourites for her unusual baggy style of clothes.
